Dee goes on a rant.
I had to think long and hard about how I wanted to approach this post. I don’t care if you agree or disagree with me, because I’m not here for your approval. I’m just here to post my thoughts on the matter. As many of you know, Tom Gabel of Against Me! came out as transgendered. I saw comments from a friend in the music industry about how he was now a “dyke” (their words, not mine…I don’t say things like that.) Being a MTF transgendered person who is married to a woman does not make her a lesbian. Sure, she could be, but that is not always the case. It’s not about being gay or straight, it’s about being the same on the outside that they are on the inside. When my friend in the music industry came under attack for his comments, he commented that it was only a joke. Someone else made a comment that he was throwing away his voice. This isn’t a joking matter, and maybe they see it as something thrown away, but for transgendered people, living in the wrong body can be sad and disheartening and changing that to be happy and be the person they really are is more important than being a famous musician. I have transgendered friends and I know from them the struggles they go through. This can be a difficult thing to come to terms with and with that being said, I support Tom Gabel, or Laura Jane as she will be known as, for being such a strong person even though I don’t know her personally. Big props to her wife for sticking by her side, too. Now that’s true love.
